Growing Plants in Containers

Growing plants in containers allows you to have flowers, vegetables and herbs without a garden, often high above city streets. It is also a good way to add decorative accents to the garden.

Growing plants in containers required more maintenance than caring for the same plants in the ground, but the ability to bring color into the landscape without plnating beds makes it worth the effort.

The container can be made of wood, stones, ceramic, plastic or anything that will hold planting medium and plants as long as it has adequate drainage. Keep in mind that metal containers may get too hot in the sun. You can use your imagination and plant container gardens into discarded tires, old shoes, bird cages, boxes, wheelbarrows, or tree stumps.
